Erica Chito Childs was interviewed by CUNY TV

Erica Chito Childs (Faculty)

Interviewed by CUNY TV, where she talked about her research on interracial couples.

Original tape date: November 5, 2019.

First aired: December 3, 2019.

Since the Supreme Court decriminalized interracial marriages in 1967, the percentage of American married couples who are interracial or interethnic has increased dramatically. Currently, 1 in 10 American couples are interracial.

Host Sheryl McCarthy talks with Erica Chito Childs, Professor of Sociology at Hunter College and The CUNY Graduate Center. She has studied the experiences of interracial couples and how communities respond to their relationships. And her findings shed light on the extent to which race relations in this country have, and have not, changed.

CUNY TV “One to One” is a bi-weekly interview show which looks at the issues and books of the day with CUNY newsmakers, experts and notables. The show is hosted by Sheryl McCarthy, veteran journalist and Distinguished Professor of Journalism at Queens College.
