Tressie McMillan Cottom, is an associate professor in the School of Information and Library Science at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Information, Technology and Public Life (UNC) and 2020 MacArthur Fellow. She received a PhD in Sociology at Emory in 2015. Dr. McMillan Cottom’s research spans higher ed, labor, race, class, gender and digital societies. She is the author of LOWER ED: THE TROUBLING RISE OF FOR-PROFIT COLLEGES IN THE NEW ECONOMY and the award-winning essay collection THICK.
