Today in America, Islam and Muslims are excluded, discriminated against and subjected to widespread Islamophobia. Although Islam is not new to America and Muslim presence dates back to pre-colonial times, the Muslim community is largely composed of immigrants whose encounter with certain aspects of American life is new and contentious. What are these Muslims doing to incorporate America into the body of Islam? And how do their efforts contribute to the acceptance and normalization of Islam as part of American culture?
